On behalf of the Bazemore Active Adult Center staff, we
would like to welcome you to our new facility! The Active
Adult Center serves anyone 55 and older residing in Union
County.
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for older adults
by providing access to a variety of activities and programs
that promote healthy living, independence, and involvement
in the community.
If you have not had a chance to stop in, we invite you to come
for a tour and check out the wide variety of activities that are
available to you. Our staff is here to answer any questions
you may have.

VETERAN’S CLUB
Wednesday, July 5th
9am
Come enjoy this fun-filled game played with a beach
ball. Chair Volleyball is great for upper body mobility
and joint flexibility. It enhances your muscle tone,
reflexes, hand-to-eye coordination, and endurance.
Rules are similar to regular volleyball except cheeks
on the chair!
WEDNESDAYS @ 11AM
Our Cardio Room is NOW OPEN! The equipment
will be used on a first come, first serve basis. A
registration form which includes our waiver of
liability must be completed before using any
machine in the Cardio Room. We ask that you limit
your time to 30 minutes if others are waiting.
Please see a staff member for any questions
about operating the machines.
LADIES
This group will will meet at a local restaurant for
dutch treat on the 4th Wednesday of every month.
Restaurant will change each month. Enjoy lunch and a
time of fellowship with a great group of ladies!

your supplies and join others who share your
interest in creating things for yourself or someone

The City of Monroe Parks & Rec
Department uses a program called Civic
Rec which allows participants to register
for trips, classes, and programs at the
Active Adult Center as well as provide
online payment, if required. If you are new
to the Center or if you’d like a refresher
course on how to use Civic Rec, we invite
you to join us for a visual tutorial led by a
staff member! No registration required.
FRIDAY, JULY 21ST

These meetings offer tools and programs for
healthy living and weight management. This group is
not about diets or selling a food plan, but provides
accountability and support.

Supplement your diet with the purchase of healthful, locally grown
produce and support your local farmers and farmers market! Eligible
lower-income older adults may receive one set of 10 coupons, worth
$50 total, to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at certified farmers
markets.
Program Eligibility: Age 60+ with self-declared household income
of $2,248 for one-person household; $3,041 for two-person
household.
SFMNP Season: July 1 through September 30, 2023
Products: Only fresh fruits and vegetables may be purchased with
coupons.

NUTRITION PROGRAM
is in need of volunteers to help deliver meals to homebound
seniors. If you are available 1-2 hours just once a month, this is
a wonderful opportunity to give back to your community.

SENIOR SINGERS
This group meets at the Active Adult Center every
Thursday at 2pm and travels to local nursing facilities for a
time of singing and socializing with residents. Senior Sing-
ers will be taking the summer off and will resume visits in

This course is for anyone new to Woodshop. It
will begin with an orientation on safety
guidelines, a description of various tools/
machines and will end with making your very
own bird house! The course will be held
Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning at
10am. The cost of the course is $5. Please

The Monroe Parks & Recreaon
Department has a bench dedicaon
program which allows individuals or
groups the opportunity to donate
benches in honor of an individual or
group. The cost of the donaon is $1,000 which includes a
park bench, engraved plaque, markers and installaon. For
those who may be interested, this bench program is
available for the Bazemore Acve Adult Center. The number
of benches that will be placed at this locaon is limited and
requests will be considered on a rst come, rst serve basis.
Exact placement of the bench is at the discreon of the de-

UNION COUNTY SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM
Congregate Meals are available to any Union County resident who is 60 years old or older.
A healthy lunchme meal is served Monday-Friday at 11:00am. There is no cost to parcipate
in the program. For anyone interested in aending, meals must be ordered at least 1 business
day in advance. To order your meal, please contact 704-283-3712 or 704-292-2567.
*Transportaon can be provided through Union County Transportaon to any of the four
dining locaons. *
Home Delivered Meals are available to home-bound adults and are delivered by volunteers

In Home Aides provide assistance with household chores, errands, and personal care at no
cost to the client. This assistance helps individuals remain comfortably in their home.
Medicare Counseling provides unbiased Medicare assistance to help beneciaries compare
opons and save money on their coverage and prescripons.
Next Door Respite program oers a social opportunity for seniors with memory loss. Sta
and volunteers provide memory-appropriate social and recreaonal opportunies in this 4
day program.
Safety Equipment & Inconnence Supplies are provided at no cost to seniors in need. This
includes wheelchairs, walkers, shower chairs, raised toilet seats, bedside commodes, canes,
etc.
TRANSPORTATION
Union County Transportaon services are available to members of the general public.
Whether you need a ride to a doctors appointment, grocery store, or a ride to work, this
service is available at lile or no cost to any Union County resident. To make an appointment,
