34. Dr.FarmerpresentedthedocumentonMentalHealthtotheNetwork and
unveiled the raw facts about mental disorder, causing 900,000 cases of
suicide every year. The raising security threats and tensions in the less
developedcountries,togetherwithwaranddisasters,havealargeimpacton
mentalhealthandthepsychosocialwellbeingofpeoplelivingandworkingin
those areas. Mental disorders are important risk factors for other diseases
likecardiovasculardiseases,HIV,anddiabetes.
35. Dr.FarmeremphasizedthatUNStaffareincreasinglyworkingin disaster
andwarareas,becomingmorepronetofeeltheimpactofmentalhealth
disorders.Dataismissingandthereisnoformalizedsystemof limiting
exposures,activefollowupondemobilizationorearlyrecognitionofdistress
andvulnerability.Infact,during2013,atotalof18,000dayswerelosttosick
leaverelatedtomentalhealthdiagnoses,thisistheequivalentof82positions
completelylost,withouttakingintoaccountlowproductivityandworkplace
disruptions.Economicallyspeaking,morethanhalfofthedisabilitypensions
awardedbythePensionFundhaveamentalhealthdiagnosis.
36. The UN Medical Services Division has designed tools to addressthis
concerning issue, like developinga UNintegrated mentalhealthstrategy,a
rolloutofamentalhealthsurvey,evaluationtoolstogetapicture of the
mentalhealthsituationamongtheworkforce,apilottotestthefeasibilityof
telehealthandmorespecificallytelepsychiatry,mentalhealthwebinars,and
enhancedHRPractices.
37. Decision: The Network welcomed the Document, appreciated the Chief
Medical Director’s effort for theveryimportantandrelevantpresentation,
andcommittedtoworktogethertodeveloptoolsandmechanismstoaddress
suchanimportantissue.

organizations,inwriting,aftertheHRNetworkmeeting.Sinceno further
feedback was received the document is considered endorsed by the HR

39. TheChairoftheMDWG,Dr.Farmer,presentedtheBriefingPaperKeyHealth
andProductivityPerformanceMeasuresfortheUN Systemandexplainedthe
existinglinkbetweenlowmoraleandsickleaverates,havingadirectimpact
onmanagersandworkforce.Havingthisinmind,itwasestablishedaSub‐
