Citi Cards Japan to make JR Tokai’s “Plus EX” service available for card holders
Tokyo, May 29 - Citi Cards Japan, Inc. (hereafter Citi Cards Japan) and Central Japan Railway
Co. (hereafter JR Central) announce that the “Plus EX” service will be made available for card
holders of Diners Club Cards and Citi Cards,
*
¹ issued by Citi Cards Japan, effective June 27,
2014.
Plus EX is a service provided by JR Central that enables customers to use their own credit
cards to reserve seats on the Tokaido Shinkansen (bullet train) online and board with just an IC
card. This service allows for customers to be able to reserve a seat on the Tokaido Shinkansen
(any section between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka) using their mobile phones, smartphones and
personal computer instead of standing in line to get a ticket at the station, and offers the tickets
at a reasonable price all throughout the year. Customers can also change the date and time of
their train reservations any number of times without charge before the departure of the
reserved train. No ticket is needed when boarding a train. Customers only need to touch their
Plus EX Card, issued by JR Central, on the ticket machine at the gate. The fare will be charged
automatically to their designated Diners Club Cards or Citi Cards.
Many card holders of Citi Cards Japan requested to be provided with the Plus EX service,
which is the main reason for the launch. Going forward, Citi Cards Japan card holders can
access the Tokaido Shinkansen, a major traffic artery connecting eastern and western Japan,
with much more ease. Special applications for Citi Cards Japan card holders will be available
from June 27.
Citi Cards Japan will continue its efforts to meet the needs of its members and improve the
convenience of its services. The two companies will maintain cooperation to provide products
and services that will satisfy their customers.
