All COVID-19 vaccines currently available in the United States have been shown to be safe and
effective at preventing COVID-19 and reducing risk for hospitalization and death. Getting vaccinated is
the most effective way to protect yourself and everyone around you.
This FAQ outlines important information about the 2021 COVID-19 vaccination period. You can direct

Important information
What’s the deadline for getting the COVID-19 vaccine? Students and faculty must complete the
vaccination process, which may include one or two doses depending on the vaccine product
administered, by Sept. 15 at 11:59 p.m. All students and faculty participating in an educational
experience at Novant Health must receive the COVID-19 vaccine by the deadline unless you have an
exemption. You can receive any of the three vaccine products:
Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) Single dose
Pfizer-BioNTech Two doses, 21 days apart
Moderna Two doses, 28 days apart
Where can I get the vaccine? The COVID-19 vaccine will be offered at vaccination clinics, and pop-up
vaccination sites. You can also schedule your vaccine in MyChart at one of the locations below:

Greater Charlotte market: Novant Health Medical Group East Meck at 6070 E.

You can also find vaccination sites across the state by going to https://www.vaccines.gov/.
I am a remote student or a non-clinical student. Does this apply to me? Yes. The mandatory
COVID-19 vaccination program applies to all students and faculty who participate in educational
experiences at Novant Health facilities.
Can I receive the COVID-19 vaccine from a non-Novant Health location? Yes. If you receive the
COVID-19 vaccine from a non-Novant Health location, you will need to submit proof of vaccination by
Sept. 15 at 11:59 p.m.

Exemptions
How do I submit an exemption? Exemption requests will be evaluated by the COVID-19 Vaccine
Exemption Committee until August 26, 2021. If you are requesting an exemption, you must submit a
completed exemption request form and all required information to the correct e-mail address on the
forms.

How will I know if my request for exemption was granted or not? You will be notified via email.
My request for an exemption was denied. Do I still have to get the COVID-19 vaccine? Yes. You
must get the COVID-19 vaccine by the Sept. 15 deadline if you do not have an exemption.
I have a medical flu shot exemption. Can I use that for the COVID-19 vaccine exemption? No.
You must submit a new exemption request for the COVID-19 vaccine.
I have a faith-based flu shot exemption. Can I use that for the COVID-19 vaccine exemption?
Yes, approved faith-based exemptions will be carried over. We do encourage those students and
faculty who have a faith-based exemption to also consider getting vaccinated to help us eradicate this
disease.
What happens if I am not fully immunized by the September 15th deadline? Students and faculty
will be removed from educational rotations and access will be suspended until vaccination status is fully
updated.
Will we be required to get annual COVID-19 vaccine boosters? We are closely monitoring the
development of boosters and will provide more guidance as it becomes available.
